Patients’ access to medicinal cannabis is simplified

6. Juli 2022 – The Federal Council decided at its meeting on 22 June 2022 to lift the ban on cannabis for medicinal purposes from the Narcotics Act (NarcA). Medical prescriptions no longer require an exemption from the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH). The sale and consumption of cannabis for non-medical purposes, however, remains prohibited. The amendment will come into force on 1 August 2022. The implementation of the amendment to the law also requires adjustments to the Narcotics Control Ordinance (Betäubungsmittelkontrollverordnung, BetmKV) and the Narcotics Directory Ordinance (Betäubungsmittelverzeichnisverordnung, BetmVV-EDI). They will be adapted as of 1 August 2022.
