21. Juli 2022 – From 23 to 30 June 2022, the action against the illegal online trade in medicines, coordinated worldwide by Interpol, took place for the 15^th time. In Switzerland, the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) and Swissmedic checked 948 consignments containing medicines or doping substances. Two thirds of the illegal shipments contained erectile stimulants, which have dominated the illegal online market for years. A total of three million units of illegal and counterfeit medicines were seized during the action. Behind the illegal drug offers are professionally organised and internationally networked criminals. Counterfeit medicines are mostly produced in Asian countries and imitation potency drugs in India. The products then reach Swiss patients through illegal and convoluted distribution channels.
