Better representation of women in medical research

14. Juni 2024 – At its meeting on 15 May 2024, the Federal Council approved a report responding to a postulate highlighting the differing health needs of women compared to men and the current insufficiencies in research and treatment that address these differences. The Federal Council is directing multiple federal agencies to implement measures in areas such as research, prevention, and training. One of these agencies, Swissmedic, is tasked with examining the necessity of gender-specific considerations in clinical trials and considering the addition of a gender specialist to its Human Medicines Expert Committee. Additionally, Swissmedic will review its internal guidelines to ensure gender considerations are included in assessments for medicinal products.
