The Federal Council facilitates the voluntary reduction of reserves in health insurance

15. April 2021 – The reserves of the health insurance companies are to be reduced for the benefit of the policyholders. The Federal Council adopted the revision of the Health Insurance Supervision Ordinance (KVAV) at its meeting on 14 April 2021. It specifies the conditions for the voluntary reduction of reserves and the reimbursement of excessive premium income by insurance companies. The minimum permissible amount for a reduction of reserves in compulsory health insurance is lowered. The amendment to the ordinance will come into force on 1 June 2021 and will be implemented for the first time in the 2022 premium approval process.
